The Johnny Lightning brand dates back to 1969, operating under its parent company Deluxe Reading. This business was a toy manufacturer working out of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Deluxe Reading created original toy products sold under names including Topper Toys, Deluxe Topper and Topper Corporation. A series of custom castings with speed-type wheels and metal bases were the first products for the Johnny Lightning brand.
